IE vs FF Working with dynamic Tables

Today I am gonna write another thing I came across while working on Javascript.
Sometimes, even if it's easier to work with list <li> elements in HTML, but the design department may make a
design using tables.
Well what I wanted to do was read some information and dynamically create table and assign correct info to its
rows, columns.
Lets write the basic HTML code for table element:

<td>Row2 Column1</td>
<td>Row2 Column2</td>
</tr>
</table>

So, looking at the table and other tags used with table, I made those elements using the Javascript Code.
The Code used to create table is as follows:


var myTable = document.createElement("table");
var myRow = document.createElement("tr");
var myCell = document.createElement("td");
myCell.innerHTML = "Hello World!";
myTable.appendChild(myRow);
myRow .appendChild(myCell);

Now, for this Javascript, Firefox was fine, but it did not worked on IE. So, I searched on Internet and then using
Firebug I noticed one thing that we also have another element inside table as <tbody> and this was the actual problem.
On FF it makes this element and adds it to the table tag. But, IE does not.
So, the new code that worked for both IE and FF is as under:


var myTable = document.createElement("table");
var myTbody = document.createElement("tbody");
var myRow = document.createElement("tr");
var myCell = document.createElement("td");
myCell.innerHTML = "Hello World!";
myTable.appendChild(myTbody);
myTbody.appendChild(myRow);
myRow.appendChild(myCell);

And, as you can see in the code above, I am manually creating the tbody element and appending it to the table.
And, the row element is appended to this tbody element.
Finally, the problem with creating tables dynamically was solved. :)

How to start.. ?

I am working on Ajax and I need to get some data, that is using XML.

If I am working on domain, lets say mysite.com and I need to get some data using xml

from the same domain, where the xml url is mysite.com/myxml.xml , So here you can direct

get the xml from this specific domain using HttpRequest.

But, what if you want data from some other domain, may be othersite.com/.

So, here XML will not be of an use, as XML httpRequest works only for the same domain

i.e. the requester and the responder are the same domains.

So, you may say lets use JSON. But, here JSON is also of no use.

As, JSON is just a formatting of data for (similar to XML)XML.

But it is also of no use for Cross Domain data Access.

What is JSON: JSON is Java Script Object Notaion. It is a lightweight data-interchange format.

The JSON filename extension is .json.

JSON is an alternative to XML and it is more easy to access than XML.

So if XML is as follows:

So, now let me get back to the point, how to overcome the problem of Cross Domain Data Access.

JSONP is a means by which to get JSON data from another

domain than the one your page is on.

If you try and use Ajax to request data from a different

domain than the page, you'll get a security error.

One way around this is a concept some call "JSONP".

This is where you include a script tag in your document. This script

tag points to an external javascript source and when the

script tag loads it executes (like any other script tag).

The catch is that you need to be able to tell that server what

to wrap the data with so your functions can handle it.

Let's say we are on this page at clientcide.com.

Let's say we want to get some data from the flicker api at flicker.com/services/api.

Here's a simple request that gets the latest photos:

http://www.flickr.com/services/feeds/photos_public.gne?format=json

To Overcome this problem of Cross Domain Data Access, JSONP comes into picture. What is JSONP?

I asked this to Google and he gave me few answers as always. You can also get some from googly..

So, whats the difference between JSON and JSONP. Both are same, except the difference that in JSONP,

you also include a call back function name. So, when u need to get the data of this JSONP using AJAX,

you need to tell AJAx the name of the call back Function defined in JSONP file.

How will the above JSON look when written as JSONP:

I am using Jquery.ajax to show the working with JSONP. Code is as follows:

IE vs Firefox

Lately I was working on Javascript and I came across a problem that was just because of some difference in browsers.
What I was trying to do was, using Javascript I was creating HTML elements dynamically as per requirement and setting different attributes of these elements. While doing so I used setattribute function to set the attribute of the elements. It worked very fine on FF but It started giving problem on IE(sucking IE).

So I kept searching for many solutions to make it working on IE as well as FF. As searching and getting a solution was a tough job, may be I was not very good at googling for it.. :(

Let me first write the code that was working on FF but not IE:

ele.setAttribute("type", "checkbox"); // works on IE as well as FF

Now I had many shes in my life,
I dreamed of having one of them as my wife.

I changed a lot which she did not teach,
She would try to hug me but I was out of reach.
She still waited for me at the gate,
but I would look at her with utmost hate.
She would be awake till late in the night,
because I wasn't home, I was enjoying somewhere.
She had so much to scold, but she never did say,
hoping to find me better the next day.
Time went on and now I am grown,
lost in the world of my own.

I have left her for my career.
When I was young, for me, she sacrificed her ambitions,
but I don't care, I now have my own mission.
I am not with her now, I am in a different city,
she is so old now but I don't even pity.

JDBC with mySQL

The purpose of this Post is to get you beyond the initial hurdles involved in:

Use mySQL database for use with JDBC.

Writing and testing your first JDBC programs to administer the database and to manipulate the data stored in the MySQL database.

* What is JDBC:

JDBC technology is an API (included in both J2SE and J2EE) that provides cross-DBMS connectivity to a wide range of SQL databases and access to other tabular data sources, such as spreadsheets or flat files.

* Connecting Java and mySQL

For Connecting Java and mySQL database you will need a Connector called "MySQL Connector/J" :

What is MySQL Connector/J?

For those who don't know, let me begin by explaining the purpose of MySQL Connector/J.

The JDBC API is designed to make it possible for you to write a single Java program and to use it to manipulate the data in a variety of different SQL database servers without a requirement to modify and/or recompile the program. In order to do this, it is necessary for you to:

Inform the Java program as to the URL of the database server. You can accomplish this with input data when you start the program.

Provide the Java program with a programming interface to the specific database server that you intend to use. Assuming that the programming interface has been installed on your computer, you can also accomplish this with input data when you run the program.

Installing MySQL Connector/J : First Extract the Connector/J downloaded archive.

It consists of many files. The file which is most imp for us is the jar file. May be named as: "mysql-connector-java-5.1.12-bin.jar"

5.1.12 is the version, can be different for you. Depends on the version of Connector you download.

Now to install the Connector you will have 2 methods:

1. The following statement appears in the connector documentation Section 2.2.1. entitled Setting the CLASSPATH

copy the "com" and "org" subdirectories and all of their contents to anywhere you like, and put the directory holding the "com" and "org" subdirectories in your classpath

2. Second Method:

put mysql-connector-java-[version]-bin.jar in your classpath, either by adding the FULL path to it to your CLASSPATH environment variable, or by copying the .jar file to $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext.

I will like to tell you the best method that worked for me and which is most uncomplicated is: Copy the downloaded Connector .jar file into /java/jre/lib/ext folder. This easier rather typing commands or setting the classpath for different .jar files you need to run you program.

Note: bfore running java programs on Windows Command prompt just do the following 2 steps and you can run the program from any directoy.

set path= "path of jdk/bin folder" (without quotes) the path may be like(for Windows users)

C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_14\bin

set classpath=%classpath%;.;

3. Lets check the connectivity using the Java Code:

Consider here the following things in the code:

database_name= The database you have made in mySQL you have to use

Database_password= Password of "root" in mySQL, you are using mySQL database as a 'root'

The table you are using is "person" which has columns "name" and "age"

In the following code you take the name of person as command-line argument and use it to run the query

The command line argument is name of person you have in your database :)

Steps to run the following java code:

Save the following code and name the file as "example.java"

Run command on command prompt (Compile the code): javac example.java

Execute the compiled File (Hope there are no Errors): java example argument (for example: java example aniket )

Lucid Lynx -- Ubuntu 10.04

After Every six months(April and October), I am waiting for release of the .04 and .10 version of Ubuntu Systems. I am always eager to see the updates in the updated versions. And so, here I am waiting for the April Version of Ubuntu 10.04, named as "Lucid Lynx".

So Lets take a look on to what are the features in Lucid Lynx: The new style in Ubuntu is inspired by the idea of "Light".

New Logos:

1. Gnome 3 though awaited to be there in the release. Lucid still has Gnome 2.x version used in it. So there will not be many changes in the look and UI part. It is of course to be expected that Gnome 3 will have a lot of rough edges at its birth, which again doesn’t make it ideal in a LST release.

The upcoming Gnome 3 that is to be released early 2010, can already be tested in an early stage in Ubuntu 9.10. If you want to test the Gnome Shell, install the package "gnome-shell",

open a terminal and enter the command "gnome-shell --replace&".

2. More Fast Boot: After using Ubuntu 9.10, I am sure that the system boots extremely fast, takes very very little time. And I suppose that 10.04 will also lead to the same experience. Boot speed has been a hot topic for a long time now and Ubuntu has come a long way in the last few releases. For Ubuntu 10.04 the target boot speed is 10 seconds! The reference platform for this target is a Dell Mini 9 netbook with a slow CPU and fast SSD that makes it an excellent "middle of the road" machine. Some people's machines will be slower, some will be faster.There’s also a plan to improve the speed on the installation process. Currently when installing packages in Ubuntu the download is a separate step from the unpack/configure. Ubuntu will be able to install package faster by doing downloads and installs in parallel. While downloading the cpu and disk are mostly idle. While installing the network is idle. Doing them in parallel is a good way to utilize both systems.
Under the hood Ubuntu 10.04 will also be switching to using a swap file, instead of a separate partition. This will allow on-the-fly resizing.

A graphical OS selector is planned for switching (rebooting) between two or more operative systems. The preferred version of the graphical OS selector will have easily recognizable logos for the installed OSs. This will require a lot of work and might not actually land in 10.04.

Mozilla FireFox: Default search engine has been changed to Yahoo! Default Home Page will use either Google or Yahoo! depending on user setting.

Linux Kernel: It includes the 2.6.32-14.20 kernel based on 2.6.32.8.

The package supports upgrades from both the officially supported versions 4.0 (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) and 4.1 (Ubuntu 9.10), as well as the likewise-open5 packages from universe. Since this upgrade involves a lot of configuration file changes and in-place database upgrades, testing and feedback is appreciated.

SNS-> Go Social: Ubuntu now feature built in integration with Twitter, identi.ca, Facebook, and other social networks with theMeMenu in the panel, which is built upon the Gwibber project, which has a completely new, more reliable backend built on top of desktopcouch. Gwibber now also supports a multi-column view for monitoring multiple feeds simultaneously.

Just Updated my Ubuntu System to new kernel and also other security updates.
But after the update was applied and I restarted my system, all the gnome-panel icons were missing and the right hand corner of the panel where I have System Date, Network Icon, indicator-applet, all were missing.
So just in case you face the same problem here are some solutions which I have used.
Note: type the commands on terminal. :)
You can refresh the panel with:

Japanese On Linux (Ubuntu)

Hello Guyz. Recently I have been studyin Japanese language more than doing anything else in my life, last 7months.
On windows configuring language to be used is very easy, but to configure Japanese language on Linux was very tough, i dont knw why.
But finally I was able to enable typing in Japanese on my Ubuntu OS also.
And here are the links which helped me to configure the language support on my Linux system. I have used SCIM repositories to configure different language support on my computer. And also install Language support on the computer using System-> administration-> language support... :)

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and I noticed a distinct slowdown in the overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as
Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NEWS 5.0, MONEY 3.0 and CRICKET 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme. Html and try to download Tears 6.2 and do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update.
If that application works as designed, Husband1.0should then automatically run the applicationsJewellery 2.0 and Flowers 3.5..

However, remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Silence 2.5 or Beer 6.1.
Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances install Mother-In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.)

In addition, please do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0.

In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly.
You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance.
We recommend: Cooking 3.0 and Good Looks 7.7.

Recently registry edit got disabled on my XP system. So I just got these steps on internet to re-enable it.
The Steps are:
1. Go to: Start | Run | Type 'gpedit.msc' and hit OK
2. Expand the following tree...User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Highlight "System" | Right click "Prevent access to registry editing tools" and select "Properties" | Select the "Disabled" or "Not Configured" radio button.

The "Registry editing tools" are regedt32.exe and regedit.exe ;)

Scaffolding in Ruby on Rails

Ruby on Rails is the new Web development programming Language. It seems very good. Even I am new to it and I am learning it from Wrox and Agile Ebook. ROR is the programming language which consists of parts as Model, Controllers, Views, Actions.
Recently I was trying a Example given in the book. It consists of a scaffold method which is to be used in a controller which has syntax as:
class AdminController < ApplicationController
scaffold :product
end

here 'admin' is the controller used and product is the model which is to be created and database is 'products'

This is dynamic scaffold method. But googling on internet and ruby forums I got to know that in Rails2.0 static scaffold method is no more used. Only dynamic method is used.

So just go into the rails application folder and type the following command for the above scaffold, So here it becomes static scaffold:

ruby script/generate scaffold product title:string description:text image_url:string

So here model is 'product' and table named 'products' is created with the parameters and columns as written after product in above command.
I will put a detailed post with all commands and step wise explaination.
But Important is if you get the Agile Web development with ROR 3rd edition(Beta will also do) it has correct steps to be followed, but in Wrox and Agile 2nd edition the steps are explained using dynamic scaffold method.

i guyz. So here I am again with a new post. I have been busy with my training and so no time to post. Though being free bcos of weekend, I thought of downloading somethings from internet and i was very happy with the download speed which i was getting.

I have been using Reliance Broadband+ since last 2 months. Its little costly, but the service and connection i am getting is worth it, as you can see in the pic. After using You Telecom(Pune) and BSNL(Pune) wired broadband service, this Reliance Broadband plus that too wireless is extremely fabulous. and excellent connectivity.
The software I am using for downloading is Bit Comet. Sometimes, i feel software also matter to get good download speed. So, if your plannin to get some connection. just give reliance a thought.. :)

Use USB Modem on Ubuntu

Hey Hi..everyone.. Again I am back with a post after many days.. I just got my Dell Studio Laptop few days back..
Actually due to some reasons, I got the Reliance USB modem to access internet..
Reliance provides USB modem of Huawei Company. When I got it, some people told me that USB modem drivers are not available on Ubuntu and It will not be possible to use internet on Ubuntu. But i got some references from net and when i tried with these steps and packages, I got access of Internet on Linux too.. :) :D .. Again thanks to google, it helped me to get the solution and thanks to ubuntu forums and debian package.
So now let me come to the point. I used "wvdial" command to connect through the USB modem and for this I have to make some changes in /etc/wvdial.conf .
So first of all you need "wvdial" installed on ur PC..
OS installed on my Laptop is Ubuntu 9.04..

Steps you need to follow:

Install wvdial:

command: sudo apt-get install wvdial
OR download debian package of wvdial and you will also need to download some of the dependencies. You will get wvdial package here.

Add device configuration to device file in /etc/wvdial.conf

Replace with your 10 digit Reliance connection number in place of phonenumber.

[Dialer Defaults]
Phone =
Username =
Password =
New PPPD = yes[Modem0]
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0
Baud = 115200
SetVolume = 0
Dial Command = ATDT
Init1 = ATZ

So, again Ubuntu 9.10 alpha version are out and this time many new things are being included in the new version.

Hey guyz .. Hi ..I am Back after a long time. My last engineering exams are over. And now im out of college life.
As now college is over and we had many assignments on Linux we all had to install and use it.. Using Linux is great and I am a damn big fan of Linux especially "ubuntu"..
But many of my friends wanted to know how to remove Linux from their system. So I had to suggest them a sequence of steps which I got to know from net, though I have not tried them (as i still use Linux.. :) ).
Here we delete the Linux partitions and reinstall the Windows Bootloader.
"Friends use Linux" Links: WHY1 WHY2 ...

Steps are as follows..

1. Boot with your Windows XP cd.
2.Select Recovery Console Option
3. At the prompt, type "fdisk /mbr" (without the quotes of course)
4. Restart your computer

If for some reason you find the need to get back to your Windows XP bootloader instead of the one installed by your Linux distro, simply follow these instructions:

1. Boot up with your Windows XP disc.

2. Select the option Recovery Console.

3. At the prompt, type "fixmbr" (without the quotes of course)

4. Restart your computer.

Hope any these works..do tell me if it works.. :) please..

Way to recover the 'winlogin.exe'

Invisible in Pidgin

Pidgin is a graphical modular messaging client based on libpurple which is capable of connecting to AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, XMPP, ICQ, IRC, SILC, SIP/SIMPLE, Novell GroupWise, Lotus Sametime, Bonjour, Zephyr, MySpaceIM, Gadu-Gadu, and QQ all at once. It is written using GTK+.

I am using Pidgin 2.4.1 and lately I was not having any "Invisible" status option and I was in need of it as Gtalk and Yahoo messenger provide it.
Pidgin helps to connect different accounts and so you can log in your accounts through pidgin and you dont have to log in your account through different Applications as messenger and Gtalk.
Pidgin is the default Chat application on Recent Linux Systems.

So Steps to enable Invisibe in Pidgin: ( I hope this works for you as it worked for me. :) )

1. Open the Buddy List.
2. In the menu, Tools -> Plugins. Enable XMMP Console. Close the Plugin Window
3. In the menu again, Tools->XMMP Console->XMMP Console.
(See if your account in which you want to go invisible is selected if you have multiple accounts. )
4. In the text box, put the following XML snippet

<priority>5</priority>
</presence>
<presence type="unavailable">
<priority>5</priority>
</presence>
}}}

Press Enter

5. Done this is it. If this is not working on your version, now try changing the status to Invisible.

Finally, if you want to reset the above settings. Follow the same procedure but make in the above XML snippet.

Wireshark ---- Network Analyzer Tool

Wireshark is a tool which is useful to extract packets on the network which we are receiving and also which we are sending depending on the protocols.
These packets are captured and presented by the software.
The software provides different options to capture the network traffic on different "interfaces" like Ethernet, Wireless, and many others as our need.
It also provides other useful options to filter the packets which we want to analyze: like we can set a filter for wireshark to provide you with packets from particular IP or particular http or ftp or broadcast packets as per requirement.

I was using this software on Ubuntu systems.
You can get the software details at here.
On ubuntu you can download and install it directly from Application-> Add/remove in 'Internet' option (you need a working internet connection).

While using it on Ubuntu i was facing a problem:
When u use Wireshark by clicking on its icon in Applications->Internet->wireshark.
The application starts, but when you click on Captur-> Interfaces, it "must" provide you with list of available interfaces as eth0, wlan0...etc..
but it does NOT..
So i was in search of some solution and i got a solution as :
goto terminal and start wireshark with the following command and the above problem was not faced..

Run these commands on Terminal
$ su
Password: "Enter you root Password here"
$wireshark &

This will start wireshark. Wireshark starts with a window and another window saying "Running as root can be dangerous" click on OK and use it.

Cairo-Dock is an animated launch bar similar to AWN. You can use it to launch applications and utilize small applets that live on the bar.
I installed it after using AWN for many days. And as i am interested in different attractive looks, themes..so i found cairo-dock far more better than AWN.
Regarding efficiency i have no idea but as far as looks and animation, plugins and themes are concerned, cairo-dock is seriously attractive.
so here i am providing a help for u all to install and use Cairo-dock and enter your experience and suggestions..

How to enable sharing of internet from Ubuntu

I was busy trying to enable internet sharing on a computer with Ubuntu to other computers having Windows/Ubuntu as OS. I was searching for solution from many days.
One solution i got was Firestarter: Firestarter has the ability to share the firewall host's Internet connection among all the computers on your local network. This is done through a technique called Network Address Translation, or NAT. To the outside world the cluster of machines will look like a single machine with a single IP address.
but. The Firewall/gateway machine connected to the Internet will need two network cards and the clients need one each if u need to enable internet sharing using firestarter..
So i had to find another solution.. and when i read one of my friends recent post, it helped how to find a solution to any problem by urself, rather knocking others door or searching for solution in a wrong way or style..
Even you can read the post and learn something good to search solutions of problems in better ways: How to ask questions?

And the solution which helped to solve my above problem(to enable internet sharing on a computer with Ubuntu to other computers having Windows/Ubuntu as OS) is as:

Note: Type all the following commands in a root terminal, DO NOT use sudo.
First be root by typing 'su' on terminal and enter your root password..
1. Start by configuring the network card that interfaces to the other computers on you network:
(here in place u can put 0 in place of X if you are using eth0 for LAN connection)
# ifconfig ethX ip

where ethX is the network card and ip is your desired server ip address (Usually 192.168.0.1 is used)

2. Then configure the NAT as follows:

# iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o ethX -j MASQUERADE

where ethX is the network card that the Internet is coming from

# echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

3. Install dnsmasq and ipmasq using apt-get:

# apt-get install dnsmasq ipmasq

4. Restart dnsmasq:

# /etc/init.d/dnsmasq restart

5. Reconfigure ipmasq to start after networking has been started:

# dpkg-reconfigure ipmasq

6. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

7: step:
# gedit /etc/sysctl.conf
(see the screenshots below..)
remove the comment(i.e. remove the '#' at the start of the lines) of the lines marked in orange in the screenshots below.

8. Reboot. (Optional)

Google is so far done and released the browser setup for Windows and will be releasing the browser setups for Linux as well as other operating systems soon.

Kernel Compilation

Compiled the kernel yesterday... found it quite easy after a lot googling and with the help of some of my friends Links..

STEPS for Kernel Compilation
1. install utilities to configure the kernel
2. move to configuration directory i.e /usr/src
3. make urself root: command: sudo -s
4. download latest kernel from kernel.org or ubuntu repository
5. unpack it
6. configure the kernel using command: make xconfig
7. Finally, it's time to build the kernel: Make sure that you are in /usr/src/linux with full root access. this will build a debian file in /usr/src/
8. install file from /usr/src folder

XAMPP for LINUX: XAMPP is an easy-to-install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. It is really very easy to install and to use: just download, extract and start.
XAMPP isn't designed for rolling out on a production server. Its goal is simply to ensure everything works, which makes it very insecure. For example, the MySQL admin has no password, the phpMyAdmin program and the MySQL daemon are accessible from over the network, and MySQL and Apache run under the same user. If you are using our XAMPP installation for a non-sensitive deployment, leaving these "holes" open won't do any harm. But some content management systems are designed to not work in a no-password environment. As a bare minimum, I'd recommend you assign the MySQL user a password.
Xampp is also available for Windows. but as we face a lot of problem installing in Linux and well this post is to install PHP+mySQL+APache2 Server for Linux users..

Its some 58 MB file Download it using the above link.
Note: Attention: If you download these files on a Windows system and you're running McAfee virus scanner you may get a false positive virus warning. This is a problem with McAfee and gzip-compressed files, it should be ignored.

STEP 2. Installation
After downloading simply type in the following commands:

Go to a Linux shell and login as the system administrator root: su

Extract the downloaded archive file to /opt:
tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.6.6.tar.gz -C /opt

Warning: Please use only this command to install XAMPP. DON'T use any Microsoft Windows tools to extract the archive, it won't work.

Warning 2: already installed XAMPP versions get overwritten by this command.

That's all. XAMPP is now installed below the /opt/lampp directory.

STEP 3: START
To start XAMPP simply call this command:

/opt/lampp/lampp start

You should now see something like this on your screen:

Starting XAMPP 1.6.6... LAMPP: Starting Apache... LAMPP: Starting MySQL... LAMPP started.

Ready. Apache and MySQL are running.

Here a list of missing security in XAMPP:

The MySQL administrator (root) has no password.

The MySQL daemon is accessible via network.

ProFTPD uses the password "lampp" for user "nobody".

PhpMyAdmin is accessible via network.

Examples are accessible via network.

MySQL and Apache running under the same user (nobody).

To fix most of the security weaknesses simply call the following command:

/opt/lampp/lampp security

It starts a small security check and makes your XAMPP installation more secure.

Start Apache, mySQL at every system startup:

enable the Checkbox: DatabaseServer(mySQL),WebServer(apache2)

Ubuntu Hardy Heron Alpha 6 is out

The developers behind the Ubuntu Linux distribution have now released the sixth alpha edition of their upcoming Hardy Heron.

This would be the final alpha release of Ubuntu 8.04 which is scheduled to come out sometime next month.

The developers warn that considering this is an Alpha edition release, users should avoid installing it on production machines.

This latest edition of Ubuntu features:

PPPoE Modems

This section is about setting up an ADSL Internet connection using an ethernet PPPoE modem.

You will need to have subscribed to an Internet Service Provider, and your Internet connection must be installed and functional. A "DSL" light on your modem usually shows that the line is synchronized.

You will need your username and password for the account. You must also have an ethernet card connected to your PPPoE modem with the correct type of cable.

Finally, you need the PPPoE package to be installed in order for the following command to work. This package is installed by default, but can be missing if the configuration has been changed. If the following command does not work, you will need to install this package, which can be found on the Ubuntu CD.

To set up the modem:

Open Applications → Accessories → Terminal
In the terminal type:
```
sudo pppoeconf
```
A text-based menu program will guide you through the next steps, which are:
1. Confirm that your Ethernet card is detected.
2. Enter your username.
3. Enter your password.
4. If you already have a PPPoE Connection configured, you will be asked if it may be modified.
5. Popular options: you are asked if you want the “noauth” and “defaultroute” options and to remove “nodetach” - choose Yes.
6. Use peer DNS - choose Yes.
7. Limited MSS problem - choose Yes.
8. When you are asked if you want to connect at start up, you will probably want to say yes.
9. Finally you are asked if you want to establish the connection immediately.
Once you have finished these steps, your connection should be working.

To start your ADSL connection on demand, in a terminal type:

sudo pon dsl-provider

To stop your ADSL connection, in a terminal type:

sudo poff dsl-provider

Note : after ur connection u can check the internet connection
status using the  command 'plog' or 'ifconfig ppp0' in terminal

Reinstall GRUB bootloader from LiveCD

A major problem faced by multi-os users having Windows and Linux is that when one installs Windows again after linux the GRUB boot loader will be busted from the MBR. Installing linux again is a strenous process. A better option would be to use a Live CD.

If u hav a live cd ....eg Ubuntu....the following method will definitely work..

This will restore grub if you already had grub installed but lost it to a windows install or some other occurence that erased/changed your MBR so that grub no longer appears at start up or it returns an error.

Boot into the live Ubuntu cd. This can be the live installer cd or the older live session Ubuntu cds.

When you get to the desktop open a terminal and enter. (I am going to give you the commands and then I will explain them later)
(This how to is written for Ubuntu but should work on other systems. The only thing to take note of, when you see "sudo" that will mean to you that the following command should be entered at a root terminal.)
Code:

sudo grub

This will get you a "grub>" prompt (i.e. the grub shell). At grub>. enter these commands

Code:

find /boot/grub/stage1

This will return a location. If you have more than one, select the installation that you want to provide the grub files.
Next, THIS IS IMPORTANT, whatever was returned for the find command use it in the next line (you are still at grub>. when you enter the next 3 commands)

Code:

root (hd?,?)

Again use the value from the find command i.e. if find returned (hd0,1) then you would enter root (hd0,1)

Next enter the command to install grub to the mbr

Code:

setup (hd0)

Finally exit the grub shell
Code:

quit

That is it. Grub will be installed to the mbr.
When you reboot, you will have the grub menu at startup.

you need internet connection for dis:
go to applications-accessories-terminal: and write the foll command dere:
$ apt get install unrar

this Command Installs unrar..

now again start the terminal:
again in terminal :
go to the directory where .rar file is present.
now :
if your file is in Documents folder do as Follows in terminal
$ cd Documents
$ unrar x filename.rar

close the terminal and go to the Documents or whichever folder ur rar file was in and the extracted folder will be present..
Extraction will b Done..

Step 1:go to Applications-Accessories-Terminal
In Terminal window do as follows:
$ su
Password: Enter root Password here
$ gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

The below screen will appear.::
Step2:

Here in the selected blue part : "default 0" is written...If u want windows as default jst add 4 in front of default.
4th is the number of windows in grub list at startup (counting starts from 0)
Step3:

Now here the Blue part selected is : "Timeout 10"
dis is how much time your OS list should appear (grub)
so if u make change as "Timeout 20 " the time is increased at startup to select your OS...
save this file and exit
exit from terminal restart and see the change..u dont need to HURRY select ur OS ..!!
